Bullet Software Design and Development

Most of our work is focused on creating new software. We work primarily on commercial products that we market and sell directly or in cooperation with other companies. We have experience in many different software technologies but we focus on just a couple including web based systems and Blackberry applications.

When would you use our software consulting services? In short, when a commercial product is not available to solve your business problem. Or, when you have a task that is highly repeitive with your existing solution. Or, when you need to integrate or migrate between two commercial products. Depending on your specific need, we may be able to help you solve your IT problems with custom software.

Our software consulting services also play a huge role in our web development projects. Sometimes, a client needs a site with some custom features beyond the scope and expertise of a web designer/developer. In this case, we bring our software engineering expertise to the project to implement the special feature.

Bullet Search Engine Optimization and Online Marketing

What is Search Engine Optimization? Search engine optimization is simply making sure your customers can find your website easily on the Internet using a search engine. Search engines are made to help users quickly find the information they need. Search engine optimization is a tedious process because web developers have little or no control over search results - only the content of your site. We attempt to structure the content on your site to yield better results in search engines for key phrases that you would like to your site to perform well on. We make adjustments, wait for the search engines to update, monitor results, and repeat.

For example, Carl loves to do his own auto repairs. The brakes on his Chevy pickup are worn down because his wife, June, drives it once a week to pick up hay for her horse. June is a super cautious driver so she keeps one foot on the gas and one on the brake. Needless to say, Carl spends a lot of time replacing brakes. When Carl remembers that he needs brakes for his Chevy, all the stores are closed and he doesn’t feel like going out anyway. So, he fires up his Mac, opens Firefox, goes to Google.com and searches for “1998 chevy silverado brake pads”. What does Carl find?

If you are in the business of selling truck parts and you sell the brake pads Carl needs, naturally, you want your web site to appear near the top of the results. Getting your site listed high for relevent searches is the field of search engine optimization. Doing it properly and effectively takes continuous effort over a period of months. It will need to be reviewed and adjusted periodicalaly after the initial optimization due to changes in search engines and the web environment.

When we develop new sites and redesign older ones, we make sure we have key foundation elements in place in your site to get it started in the right direction for search engine optimization. Many sites could use special attention to search engine optimization - some don’t need it. It depends mostly on the specific needs of the customer. The process involves continuous monitoring, adjustment, and refinement of your site content to maximize your visitor traffic over time.

Bullet Website Hosting and Domain Registration

If you are not familiar with how a web site works, this part can get confusing. Your web site consists of a set of computer files. Your website files must be “hosted” (stored) on a computer constantly connected to the Internet that has a public, static address. We call this a web server. The static address I mentioned is called an IP address and its a number that looks similar to this: 127.0.0.1. Every computer connected to the Internet has an IP address. Instead of remembering the numeric addresses of all the computers, we associate names with those numbers. For your website, you will need a domain name. A domain name is something like google.com or amazon.com. You'll want to choose one for your site that is not already taken. To check availability, you can go to a site like Network Solutions and search for available names. When we set up your web site, we configure the name that you (or we) register to point to the numeric computer address where your web site files are located. Then, when you type your domain name in your web browser, it shows you your site. Confusing, right?

There is a fee associated with keeping your domain name registered. The fee varies based on the name and where you purchase. $10 to $50 per year is typical for domain name registration. You can register your domain name for multiple years if you prefer. We recommend registering your domain for multiple years unless you have special circumstances.

A fee is also associated with storing your files on the web server. This is called web hosting and can vary in price depending on features.

For our clients who would rather use a single company for all of their web site needs, we offer domain registration and web hosting to keep things as simple as possible. We also work with clients who prefer to take care of their own hosting and domain registration.
