Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Logistics is simply managing the flow of goods or resources from point to point in a supply chain. Supply chain management is essentially synonymous with logistics with the caveat that it typically involves networks of organizations cooperatively participating in producing a final product or consumable.
Logistics systems are built to plan, implement, and control efficient movement of resources. Why would you want to do that? By actively managing and
improving your supply chain, you can prevent leasing too much warehouse space for example. Or, hiring too many trucks to move your goods. Or, hiring too many trucks at the wrong time to move your goods. The overall goal of logistics and supply chain management is efficiency – get everything you need moved as efficiently as possible from where it is to where it needs to be.
